Silas Roth is an enigmatic American expatriate playing two-bit “foreigner for hire” parts in Northwest China – employed by an agency that finds Americans to “play” various roles for Chinese companies. Following a successful modeling gig, the agency offers Silas a role as the fraudulent CEO of a major industrial plant, thrusting him into the center of a conspiracy involving the company and a worker who has been badly injured in a factory explosion. As Silas prepares for his first press conference as “CEO,” he finds himself inexplicably drawn to the injured employee, and soon the lines between the actor and character become harder to distinguish.
